Types of SSL

Explain types of SSL ?

SSL certificates are broadly categorized by validation level (Domain, organization, Extended) and the number of domains they secure (single, Multi-Domain, wildcard).

  1. Validation Levels:

  • Domain Validation (DV): The most basic type, requiring only proof of domain ownership through a simple verification process. DV certificates are often the least expensive but offer the least expensive but offer the lowest level of assurance to website visitors.

  • Organization Validation (OV): This type involves more in-depth verification of the organization’s legitimacy, often through checks against business registry databases and contact with organization’s representatives. OV certificates offer a higher level of trust than DV certificates.

  • Extended Validation (EV): EV certificates require the most rigorous verification, including a full background check of the organization to ensure its legal existence, address, and other crucial details. EV certificates are typically used for financial transactions and websites where high trust is essential.
